Low VOC coatings have become a hot issue for researchers, among which the development of new coatings such as high solid coatings, waterborne coatings, powder coatings and radiation curing coatings has become the dominant.
 
Metal materials are widely used in all walks of life because of their excellent mechanical properties, but their corrosion will bring great harm and huge losses. The economic loss caused by corrosion in the world every year reaches trillions of dollars, which is the sum of natural disasters such as fire and earthquake. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the anti-corrosion methods of metals and control metal corrosion for the development of national economy. One of the most common measures to prevent metal corrosion is to use coating to isolate the metal substrate from the surrounding medium. With the development of all walks of life, the market scale of anti-corrosion coatings is second only to architectural coatings, so it is of great significance to understand the development status and future development direction of anti-corrosion coatings.
 
Epoxy resin is a kind of polymer material with linear structure. Each molecule contains two or more epoxy groups on average. It is mainly synthesized by bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin. The hydroxyl group and epoxy group in its structure can react with anhydride, phenolic resin, polyisocyanate and polyamide resin to obtain epoxy resin coatings with different structures and properties. Its structure determines that the epoxy resin has excellent adhesion, adhesion, stability, chemical resistance, insulation and mechanical strength. The epoxy resin coating obtained from it has excellent physical and mechanical properties, strong metal adhesion, good chemical resistance, oil resistance and strong alkali resistance. Common epoxy resin is difficult to dissolve in water and easy to dissolve in organic solvents, but organic solvents are not only expensive, but also toxic and volatile, which do not meet the requirements of environmental protection. Therefore, the environment-friendly epoxy resin coating has become one of the research hotspots of the researchers in the coating industry. This paper introduces the present situation and future development direction of waterborne epoxy anticorrosive coatings, solvent-free epoxy anticorrosive coatings and high solid epoxy anticorrosive coatings.
